Man Charged in Fatal I-70 Crash (Zamarripa-Castaneda)

MAN CHARGED IN FIERY, FATAL I-70 CRASH

Denver District Attorney Beth McCann has formally charged a man in connection with a fatal crash on I-70.

Ivan Zamarripa-Castaneda (09-06-1991) is charged with one count of vehicular homicide-DUI (F3) and one count of leaving the scene of an accident-death (F3).  He was arrested by Denver police at his home on March 4, and charges were filed yesterday.

On March 3, 2018, shortly before midnight, the defendant, driving a pickup truck, allegedly caused a fiery accident involving a tractor-trailer rig near eastbound I-70 and N. Brighton Boulevard, resulting in the death of the 57-year-old driver of the semi, and then fled the scene of the accident. He was subsequently arrested at his home in the 2600 block of W. Bayaud early the next morning.

Zamarripa-Castaneda is scheduled to appear on March 9 at 8:30 a.m. in courtroom 2300 for 2^nd advisement.
