MAN CHARGED IN FATAL AUTO-BICYCLE HIT AND RUN

Denver District Attorney Beth McCann has formally charged a man in connection with a fatal auto-bicycle hit and run.

Kendal Gilkey (dob: 04-26-1985) is charged with one count of vehicular homicide-DUI (F3), one count of leaving the scene of an accident-resulting in death (F3), one count of vehicular homicide-reckless/causing death (F4), one count of no compulsory insurance (T1), one count of failure to report accident or return to scene (T2), one count of reckless driving (T2), and one count of no operators license (T2).  Charges were filed last Friday.

The charges allege that in the early morning of June 23, 2018, Gilkey, while driving his motor vehicle, fatally hit a 37-year-old man riding his bicycle at the intersection of Speer Boulevard and Logan Street. The defendant then allegedly fled the scene and when apprehended by police after an area search by patrol car exhibited indicia of impairment.

Gilkey is scheduled to appear on July 11, 2018, at 8:00 a.m. in courtroom 2300 for 2nd advisement.
