Juvenile Charged as Adult in Shooting Death of Another Juvenile

DENVER—Denver District Attorney Beth McCann has filed a notice to charge a juvenile (age 17) as an adult in the shooting death of another juvenile (age 16) on April 11, 2019, in the 100 block of South Yuma Street in Denver’s Valverde neighborhood.

The male juvenile defendant is alleged to have committed one count of murder in the first degree (F1) and one count of possession of a handgun by a juvenile (M2).

Last month, Denver Police officers responded to a 911 call of shots being fired and found the male juvenile victim on the ground suffering from apparent gunshots wounds. He was transported by ambulance to Denver Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Notice to direct-file the charges in District Court were accepted on Wednesday, May 1, 2019.  The defendant’s next court appearance is Monday at 8:30 a.m. in courtroom 5A.
