Denver Jury Returns Verdict for Case of 80-Year-Old Victim George Black

DENVER—Denver District Attorney Beth McCann today announced that after deliberating for three hours, a Denver jury found 38-year-old Stephanie Martinez guilty of criminally negligent homicide and second degree assault on a peace officer. On May 2, 2020, Mr. George Black was sitting on a park bench on the grounds of Colorado’s state Capitol when Martinez, who was unknown to him, beat him to death.

Martinez will be sentenced on January 7, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 5F. This is Denver District Court case number 20CR02834.
