Denver DA Announces Settlement with Patrick Layden
DENVER—On April 27, 2021, prosecutors with the Denver District Attorney’s Office announced the filing of a criminal case against Patrick Layden for traffic accident at 32nd Avenue and Lowell Boulevard on April 10, 2021. During the incident, 46-year-old Bradley Brubaker was killed and his young daughter injured.
At trial, the evidence would have shown that Mr. Layden was experiencing an unforeseen medical issue at the time of the accident and that neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor. Today, Patrick Layden pleaded guilty to one count of Careless Driving Resulting in Death (T1) and to one count of Careless Driving Causing Bodily Injury (T1).
“I have been touched by the outpouring of support from Denver’s Highlands community, all the first responders, our investigators, victim advocates and prosecutors,” said Denver District Attorney Beth McCann. “There is now a Memorial Sign at the corner of 32nd and Lowell which I hope is a small measure of comfort to the Brubakers and the broader Highlands community.”
Layden was immediately sentenced and received 12-points on his driver’s license which was revoked for one year. This is Denver District Court case number 21CR002253.
