Convicted Murderer Remi Cordova Sentenced to Life in Prison
DENVER — Denver District Attorney Beth McCann today announced that Denver District Court Judge Darryl Shockley has sentenced Remi Cordova to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 40 years for first-degree murder and eight years in prison for first-degree attempted murder. The sentences will run consecutively. On November 1, 2024, a jury convicted Cordova of the two charges.
On February 20, 2021, Cordova, who was 14 at the time, shot and killed 32 year-old Pamela Cabriales after a minor fender bender at Colfax Avenue and I-25. The attempted murder conviction relates to the driver of the car that was stopped immediately behind Ms. Cabriales’s car.
Due to the severity of the crime and Cordova’s history, he was charged and tried as an adult after a Juvenile Court judge upheld the transfer of the case from Juvenile Court to District Court.
“This sentence will ensure that Remi Cordova is held accountable and pays a significant price for his heinous crimes. Pamela Cabriales was a loving, joyful and hard-working young woman who would be with us today were it not for Mr. Cordova’s entirely senseless actions the night of the murder,” said DA McCann. “My thoughts continue to be with all those who knew and loved Pamela, especially her young son. I want to thank the prosecutors, investigators and victim advocates in my office, as well as the detectives with the Denver Police Department, for their outstanding work on this difficult case.”
