There are two main prosecution divisions within the Denver District Attorney’s Office: our County Court Division where more than 15,000 to 17,000 misdemeanor cases are handled each year, and our District Court Division where more than 5,000 felony cases are handled each year.
Some criminal prosecutions benefit from a specialized team approach, because of the specific issues involved with certain types of crime. The District Attorney has created special prosecution units for these areas: Economic Crime including white collar crime and elder abuse; Family Violence including child abuse; the Juvenile Unit for juvenile crimes; and the Gang Unit for crimes with gang involvement.
District Attorney has recently created a Sexual Assault Unit. Attorneys assigned to these cases prosecute sexual assaults where the perpetrator is unknown to the victim, sexual assaults between intimate partners and acquaintances, sexual assault on the elderly or disabled, and date rape.
